I am urging you to cosponsor the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Conflict Act (H.R.533/S.138), which was introduced by Reps. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Michael McCaul (R-TX) in the House and Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Todd Young (R-IN) in the Senate. This legislation takes a stand against China's worsening human rights crimes in Tibet and Beijing’s denial of the Tibetan people’s right to self-determination.

As your constituent, I know you share my concern over the Chinese Communist Party’s brutal suppression of Tibetan culture. Recently the situation has become even more dire: Over 75% of Tibetan schoolchildren ages 6-18 are in Chinese boarding schools, pulled away from their families and taught only in Mandarin.

This assault must stop. And H.R.533/S.138 is a strong step in the right direction, reaffirming America's position that the Chinese government must resolve the conflict in Tibet through negotiations with Tibetan leadership. This is as critical as ever now that more than a decade has passed since the CCP walked away from the negotiating table.
