Tell Congress: Call on China to Release the Panchen Lama!

For 28 years, we have been at vigil, mourning the disappearance of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama, hoping for his safety, and searching for answers.

Recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in accordance with Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Panchen Lama was swiftly kidnapped by the Chinese government in 1995 at the mere age of six. This child—now an adult—has never been seen since.

Dear Chairman Gallagher and Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi of the Select Committee on the CCP,

Every year, Aug. 30 is dedicated to recognizing the heinous act of “disappearing” persecuted people. In Tibet, this is sadly commonplace. Specifically, I write to you as a concerned citizen desperately seeking answers about the status of the 11th Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima. He is a prominent master in Tibetan Buddhism, which has many followers throughout the world, including in the United States.

Your committee is already doing much-needed investigations of the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party. There are few examples of the CCP's methods more vivid than their willingness to disappear a child and his family and keep them in the darkness for almost three decades ... and counting. The CCP objective is to use a deep spiritual tradition of Tibetan Buddhists to serve its political agenda of controlling the Tibetan people.

We urge you to take immediate action by sending a joint letter to the Chinese government calling for the Panchen Lama's release and restoration to his rightful place in Tashi Lhunpo Monastery.  We also urge the committee to hold a hearing specifically exposing the CCP’s malfeasance in Tibet. We also ask for your additional support of the Tibetan people and their efforts to secure a peaceful resolution to the Tibet crisis by co-sponsoring H.R.533, the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Conflict Act.

We must not accept the CCP's lies when they claim that the Panchen Lama, abducted in 1995, is living a normal life and does not wish to be disturbed. We must expose this and the CCP’s relentless campaign of disinformation.
