The People of Kashi Didn’t Stay Silent. Neither Can We.

Tibetans in Kashi knew the risks when they protested gold mining on their grazing land. They spoke out anyway—peacefully—because that land sustains their cattle, their livelihoods, and their way of life.

China’s response was swift and brutal. Around 80 Tibetans were detained the day after the protest. Many were beaten, deprived of sleep, and forced to sign false statements. Some have since been released, but several remain missing, their families still searching for answers.
